In a school of education like ours an examination is a test to show the knowledge and ability of a student. A student who takes an examination is a candidate. The person who decides how well the student has performed is the examiner. The purposes of examination have an important role in the process of learning and in the whole educational institution. Exam is a great way to assess what the students have learnt with regards to particular subjects. It is by passing exam that will pave way for your exit otherwise you continue to take the paper until you pass with a good grade for a better result. No sane student should joke with his/her exam because it determines your future. Also no student can graduate without passing all the required courses in their department and the general courses.

Examination malpractice is not allowed in our department. Forms of examination malpractice are as follows:
v  coping from another person during exam or continuous assessment and bringing into examination hall foreign materials like omokirikiri which means a tiny writing written on a piece of paper, others are written in their handkerchiefs, clothing, table, laps, palms, inside shoes, brazier, Bob Marley hair, boxers, inside the answer scripts, tights, notebooks, textbooks, etc. Anybody cut in this act shall fail the course or carry the course over.
v  Impersonation during exams is also an automatic failure or carryover some student may think that it is an ideal thing that most people do it, don’t engage in such act.
v  Insulting/molesting/fighting/intimidating any invigilator during exam is also automatic failure and be suspended for one session
v  Involving in an examination leakage is also carryover. For more information visit the Student Handbook Federal College of Education Eha-Amufu (2016) pages 24-26

Definitions of Grades Point Average and Cumulative Grade Point Average
Grade Point:  the grade point is derived from the actual percentage raw score for a given course; the raw score is converted into a letter grade and a grade point. See e.g. below

The grade point average (GPA) is the average of weighted grade points earned in the courses taken during the semester. The grade point is obtained by multiplying the grade point attained in each course by the number of credit units assigned to that course and then summing the total number of credit units taken for the semester.

Cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is the up to date mean of the grade Point earned by student in a programme of study. It is an indication of the student’s overall performance at any point in the training programme.

CGPA = sum of total grade point X respective credit units for Semester
Total credit for all courses registered by the student

The continuous assessment carries 40% of the marks to be awarded to student in a course at the end of the semester. A minimum of 2 continuous assessment tests is expected in each course. The continuous assessment (CA) comprises: test or quiz, assignments, term papers, essays as approved by the Academic Boards. The minimum passing grade for all courses including elective courses and general studies shall be “E” which is 1 point.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)
Student’s cumulative grade point average is obtained by multiplying the credit load of each course taken to date by the points appropriate to the letter grade that is obtained for the course.
i.                    The Cumulative Grade Point Average is obtained by a student at the end of session or prgramme of study.

ii. It is useful to determine the student’s eligibility to apply for a scholarship, competitions, elective post in the college e.g. Students Union Governments (SUG’s) etc. it is very essential to determine the final grade of a student in the NCE result.

 Final grading for NCE
0.0         – 0.099 = Fail
1.0         – 1.49 = Lower Pass
1.50 – 2.39 = Pass
2.40 – 3.49 = Merit
3.50 – 4.49 = Credit
4.50 – 5.00 = Distinction
