SUMMARY
Foundations of social studies aims at informing the public about the objectives of social studies. Social studies informs us about the aims and objectives of social studies in both primary and secondary schools. It informs the public how natural science (chemistry) acts as a panacea to diseases to mankind. Foundations of social studies reflects on the period social studies was introduced in parts of the world like protein, Canada, United State and in Amen. Social Studies helps in the eradication of HIV and AIDES in our society. Foundations of social Studies informs us on ways by which HIV infection can be contacted. It information us (foundations of social studies) how the virus can be mitigated. It x-rays the concept of family circle. It informs us about the salient role family play in the equipment of individuals attached within a family circle in other for such individual to be able to withstand future challenges. Foundations of social studies creates awareness on the need to the population of a Nation/Social. Population control helps for better the living standard in our society. The back also centre’s on the orientation against drugs abuse. It defines what drug abuse is all about which can be defined as a chemical substance other than food which, when taken can alter the psychological state of an individuals. As told by Onyiaji (2004). 1.In relation to the national policy on Education, social studies can be described as a child of circumstance.
2.It was thought that through social studies education, a love of the country patriotism could be developed in Nigeria school children in such a way that they would develop a strong attachment to their country and government.
3.Social studies as citizenship education, has been seen as a means of inculcating desirable values and social attitude into the child in order to achieve social reform.
4.Some of the societal values that should be inculcated in the child include honesty, fair play, sportsmanship, hard work, obedience, self-confidence, respect, loyalty and discipline.
5.Social studies does not engage in the building of theories rather, it utilizes those ones built by social scientists in different disciplines of social sciences to provide answers to burning question of people’s existence and survival in their environment.
6.Therefore, social studies is not a combination of social sciences as many people tend to wrongly or inaccurately think.

Summary
This book, foundations of social studies deals with issues of educational balances of a child. It state the aims and objectives of social studies in Nigeria, it also considered the integration.
