Nigerian Politics today

Nigeria as a Nation 2027: Beyond “Stomach Infrastructure” to Sustainable Development.

How can meaningful development take place when public representatives place personal interests above the collective well-being of the people they are entrusted to serve? One of the greatest challenges facing Nigeria today is the erosion of public-spirited leadership and accountability. When political office becomes primarily a pathway to personal enrichment, development suffers, institutions weaken, and citizens lose confidence in democratic governance. But we must also understand the reality of the ordinary citizen. A hungry man is vulnerable to short-term political incentives. When people struggle to put food on their tables, immediate survival can easily take precedence over long-term national interests. This is why the politics of “stomach infrastructure” remain very important! powerful. As we approach 2027, Nigeria must think beyond temporary political gratification. Elections should not be determined solely by who can provide immediate material benefits, but by who offers credible leadership, economic opportunity, social protection, security, institutional reform, and sustainable development. The real battle is therefore not only for political power; it is for the political consciousness of the Nigerian people, particularly the youth. Those who genuinely desire change must invest in young people, not merely by giving them temporary assistance, but by changing the way they perceive political participation and citizenship. Young Nigerians must be empowered with education, skills, employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, civic awareness, and the capacity to demand accountability from those who govern them. There is an important difference between giving a person fish today and teaching that person how to fish sustainably tomorrow. Sustainable empowerment builds independence; perpetual dependency creates vulnerability! If Nigeria must get 2027 right, we must begin preparing now! We must educate citizens to look beyond immediate benefits and ask the more important questions:

What is the candidate's vision?

What has the candidate achieved?

What policies will create jobs?

How will poverty be reduced?

How will institutions be strengthened?

How will the next generation benefit?

Nigeria does not merely need only voters; Nigeria needs to be informed, politically conscious, and economically empowered citizens. The future of our democracy cannot be built on what we can only eat today while sacrificing what our children will inherit tomorrow. Let us think beyond the life after 2027. Let us invest in the people. Let us empower the youth. Let us demand accountable leadership. Let us build a Nigeria where citizens have the capacity to choose their leaders based on vision, not hunger, inducement, or temporary gratification. This is the time to prepare the people to make a positive change come 2027.

The time to prepare for a better political future is now or never!
